This was the scene at 9:00 pm last night from our deck as we sat in our adirondack chairs sipping our 2012 Martinez & Martinez cabernet sauvignon from Horse Heaven Hills in Washington, listening to the last chirping of the day from our birdie friends and smelling the citronella candles hoping to ward off the mosquitoes. While we were experiencing this peaceful scene, all hell was breaking loose across the country from D.C. to PDX and many cities in between. The impetus for all of the rioting, of course, was the murder of George Floyd by cops in Minneapolis, but I think it is much more than just that horrific event. Things in this country have reached the boiling point as a result of the pandemic, the breakdown of the economy, mass unemployment, divisions over the lockdowns, the politicizing of face masks, kids out of school looking for some kind of action, far left wingers (Antifa) vs. nationalists (white supremacists) looking for a fight and any excuse to cause havoc, and finally two back-to-back incidents of black men being killed by amped up white men. And the common denominator in all of this is a person in a leadership position, who is not providing leadership, but creating a tinderbox and then stoking the resultant fires. A true leader would be calling for calm right now, not egging on his base by blaming Democrats for all of the rioting, telling “Liberal Mayors and Governors” to get “MUCH Tougher” on the rioters, and suggesting his supporters come to the White House today to basically have a counter demonstration clash. He started this morning with a tweet that is typical for this “little man who would like to be biggly.” “Great job last night at the White House by the U.S. @SecretService. They were not only totally professional, but very cool. I was inside, watched every move, and couldn’t have felt more safe. They let the “protestors” scream & rant as much as they wanted, but whenever someone got too frisky or out of line, they would quickly come down on them , hard – didn’t know what hit them. The front line was replaced with fresh agents, like magic. Big crowd, professionally organized, but nobody came close to breaching the fence. If they had they would have been greeted with the most vicious dogs, and most ominous weapons, I have ever seen. That’s when people would have been really badly hurt, at least. Many Secret Service agents just waiting for action. “We put the young ones on the front line, sir, they love it, and good practice.” In the same tweet he went on to criticize the Washington, D.C. mayor for not letting the D.C. police get involved. Her response was terrific,

My interpretation of his tweet is, “There were some really, really bad people outside my house last night that kind of made me feel afraid. I was all by myself watching from behind the curtains. I wasn’t sure if I was going to wet my pants because they scared me or I was going to get a lil’ stiffy watching all of those cool Secret Service agents out there just for me, me, me — they were there beating people up to protect me, the POTUS, Agolf Twitler. Ooo, Ooo, and the man in charge called me ‘sir’ and told me that if I got too scared they had some mean, mean dogs that would bite the bad people and they would be badly hurt. And then when I saw those fantastic ominous weapons, I sat down on my ruggy and got out my collection of plastic army men and started giving orders like the great leader I am. But then I got bored and twittered that mean girl mayor. Why is that there are so many mean girls out there that keep kicking me in my privates? It’s not fair!!!!!!!”
