While many folks in the United States of America were protesting the actions of DOGE, Elon Musk, and President Trump with a “HANDS OFF” protest march throughout the US, and four American soldiers were brought home in body bags, and folks 401-K’s were being flushed down the toilet after a Thursday and Friday $11 Trillion dump, our leader and commander spent his weekend with Saudi’s golfing and negotiating on the Saudi-backed professional golf league, LIV. Meanwhile, his minion Kakistocrats were hitting the airwaves with interviews gaslighting how wonderful these tariffs were going to be and “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” The message being, ‘Be happy you low life proletariat, the bourgeoisie and our great savior, negotiator, and stable genius is working for you to Make America Great Again, so stop your whining.’ We were at the beach, but even the small town of Yachats had a march on Saturday. The missus and I thought we were going to hit it, but got our time mixed up and got there just as it was winding down. Me thinks that there is momentum building and we are going to see this continue to build that will bring back visions of the Vietnam War protests. Unfortunately, I don’t see a contemporary Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young musical group that will provide us with a relevant song for the occasion. Michael (you know who), there’s a challenge for you. How about a contemporary Four Dead in Ohio? Today, your idol John Prine would have been 78 years old. Go for it, you troubadour.
Anyhoo, back to business. One strategy the Dems might consider regarding this tariff nonsense, is to let Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Nutlick, er Lutnick, and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins continue to provide the tariff narrative and Dems just sit back and smile as that trio tries to convince Americans that DJT has this situation “totally under control, so don’t worry.” All three were laughable on Sunday. From Billionaire Bessent to Kristin Welker on Meet the Press when she pointed out people fearing their retirement savings were disappearing, “I think that’s a false narrative. Americans who want to retire right now, Americans who have put away for years in their savings accounts, I think they don’t look at the day-to-day fluctuations of what’s happening.” Do ya think this guy is clueless. Please, let him keep spewing that shit on TV. Jake Tapper asked Rollins about putting a tariff on an island that has zero human inhabitants but, does have a bunch of penguins. Her response, “I mean, come on. Whatever. Listen, the people that are leading this are serious, intentional, patriotic, the smartest people I have ever worked with. I did not come up with the formulas. I’m the ag secretary. I studied agriculture at Texas A&M.” She’s a real whiz kid. If you will recall, her answer last month to the egg price situation was for people to start raising chickens in their backyards. And finally, Secretary Nutlick, I mean Lutnick. Remember, he is the one who two weeks ago said that if his 94 year old mother-in-law didn’t get her social security check on time, she wouldn’t be worried. This is the MIL who lives with her daughter and billionaire husband in a multi-million dollar house. Yesterday, his most quotable answer to a question about bringing factory jobs back to America was, “well, remember, the army of millions and millions of human beings screwing in little, little screws to make iPhones, that kind of thing is going to come to America.” Holy shit. You see the problem here? Just like DJT, I doubt these three cabinet members grocery shop for themselves, interact with anyone who has a net worth less than $1 billion, or doesn’t have a bidet to clean their ass. Clueless. Clueless. Clueless. The clowns are clueless.
I do think, however, the cracks are getting wider and deeper in MAGA world. From my perspective, the majority of the members of the MAGA cult are those who have little education, live paycheck to paycheck, and many who rely on Medicaid and other federal government assistance. At the other end of the spectrum are the very rich who have lots of money in the stock market and industry. Both are starting to get pissed as prices continue to go up and the stock market crashes. How about the CEO’s who paid $1 million to sit in the front row at the inauguration only to see the value of their company drop faster than a rat up a drainpipe. Trump is a narcissist and seeing his favorability numbers plunge from even MAGA’s; CEO’s starting to talk about what the tariffs are really doing for their bottom line; and GOP congress members talking about taking more control over tariffs, my prediction is that by the end of this week Trump will make some sort of announcement that countries have made agreements so he can decrease the amount of tariffs first established. It will be framed in terms of a big win for the USA and a result of the greatest move ever by a president after years of being screwed by all these countries. We’ll see.
